WEDSHED, MARRIAGE EQUALITY AND YOUR WEDDING – THREE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS

How to express your views on marriage equality at your wedding

Need a helping hand here? We partnered with All We Need Is Love – Victoria Eustace, Wedding Celebrant to suggest a few ways to show your support for same-sex marriage at your wedding.

I am lucky enough to have found a community of professionals to surround myself with that are a source of inspiration and motivation, daily.  This community is made up of my fellow celebs, photographers, florists, stylists, makeup artists and what I like to call “wedding day curators” such as Mel and Amy from WedShed.

These ladies have not only incredible business savvy and impeccable taste, they also happen to be passionate supporters of Marriage Equality here in Australia.  If you’re reading this you most probably know I am too!  That is why, when they asked me if I’d like to contribute some thoughts on how you can tactfully incorporate your views on (the lack of) equality in this country within your wedding, while still wholeheartedly celebrating love, I jumped at the chance.  Well, I jumped at the chance and then took my sweet time putting the blog pieces together.  When considering inclusivity and making political statements on a day that has its history firmly based in tradition, during a particularly volatile time in our country’s narrative, you can’t be too careful when picking your words!

Amy and Mel have published both pieces on their website.  You can see the first here:

And the second here:

Three Simple Ways To Help Bring On Marriage Equality

Who knows when we will see all loving and consenting adults within a partnership as valid and equal in this country.  But until we do, if you want to do something to help make it happen sooner, you can.  I’m an advocate for maintaining religious freedom, freedom of speech and equality for all – I don’t believe any of those issues are mutually exclusive. However, all my LGBTIQ+ friends and family are in my thoughts daily while we debate their legal rights like we’re talking about what to have for dinner.

Love each other, listen carefully to anyone who has concerns as there is a lot of misinformation out there and take care of your nearest and dearest – we’ll get there Australia xx

Victoria made our wedding day so relaxed and loving and we felt like she really understand what we wanted. My new husband and I feel so lucky that we found Victoria to celebrate and make such a special moment and couldn’t be happier. So many people said how beautiful the ceremony was and Victoria made it all possible. Would highly recommend Victoria to anyone getting married who would like a fun, relaxed and loving ceremony!

We couldn’t have asked for a better celebrant! Victoria played such a huge role in making our day so awesome. Not only marrying us but sharing in the excitement and the creation of the type of ceremony we wanted to have.
It was really important for us to have people involved in our wedding who genuinely wanted to be involved and understood what we were about, and Victoria was no exception.
It was such a pleasure sharing this experience with her, and both Bennett and I feel we found a kindred sprit and a new friend. xx

Victoria we can’t thank you enough for the incredible ceremony that you created for us. Our ceremony felt so personal and was exactly what we wanted. Our guests all commented on what a beautiful ceremony it was and what a wonderful job you did – they thought you were the best celebrant they’ve ever come across (and so did we!). We HIGHLY recommend using Victoria as your celebrant – we were planning our wedding from afar as we don’t live in Sydney but she was able to answer all our questions via email and Skyped with us on a couple of occasions. In the lead up to our wedding she was available to answer all our questions, and on the day she made the ceremony run seamlessly.

We couldn’t recommend Victoria highly enough as a celebrant. For two people who were quite nervous about having all eyes on us, Victoria was so kind, reassuring and grounded. The planning was all a breeze and Victoria was so organised giving us a gentle nudge when we needed to get information to her. By taking the time to chat to us and asking us to fill out a questionnaire about us as a couple, the ceremony itself was perfect – personal and lovely. We had so many comments afterwards about just how lovely it was! Thank you Victoria for making our day so special.

Victoria is the most wonderful wedding celebrant and person in general – cannot recommend her highly enough! She performed the ceremony for our wedding and it was exactly what we wanted, such care and thought went into it, we had so many guests comment on how perfect it was for us. The whole process was completely stress free and Victoria made everything simple and easy for us. Thank you Victoria for making our day so special!

I can’t thank Victoria enough for helping create such a flawless, fun and inclusive ceremony that shone a spotlight on who we are and what we’re all about. It was truly the best part of our day! Every single guest told me how much they enjoyed being at a ceremony that was personal and inclusive – they really connected with what was said. Victoria’s ceremony style is a refreshing twist on standard proceedings. She’s a bloody legend.

We couldn’t have dreamed of a better celebrant – Victoria was so much fun to work with. She took the time to get to know us and exactly what we wanted out of our ceremony, and that really showed. We got the laid back, funny and sweet ceremony that we wanted. We’ve since had so many of our friends and family tell us how wonderful Victoria is and how it seemed like she had known us for years. We could not recommend Victoria more!

WHAT DO I DO FOR YOU?

As your celebrant I want your big day to truly be the happiest day of your life.  Here is an overview of what the process looks like:

♥ We meet, obligation free, to make sure I am the right fit for your day.  This can be in person or via Skype.  I am based in Sydney’s inner west.

♥ I work closely with you, helping you design the ceremony that will reflect who you are and the love that you feel. I ask questions, let you know all your options and summarise everything we talk about in an email so you are completely clear about the content and where we are up to in the process.

♥ Together we will complete all legal paperwork and talk through any questions you may have regarding this. I provide all forms for you, you need to provide appropriate ID (see more in LEGAL INFO)

♥ When it comes to writing your ceremony you can have as much or as little creative input as you like.  I come with a wealth of resources and take a genuine pleasure in the writing process.  I will also find out everything I need to know about you, the couple, to make your ceremony completely personalised. No two ceremonies are the same.

♥ You should feel comfortable talking to me and know that I will give you all the information that is required for you to be as accurately informed as possible.  I am up to date with regards to the Marriage Act, complete annual OPD and belong to Australia’s largest celebrant association, as such I have access to the most current legal and general celebrant related info around.  If, for some reason, I don’t know the answer to something I have super special celebrant access to the Attorney Generals Dept and Births, Deaths and Marriages, as well as up to date guidelines on the Act and a really switched on celebrant network.

♥ We will meet, email, talk over the phone and meet again until you are 100% satisfied that your ceremony is exactly how you want it.  I will then facilitate the ceremony for you on the day, take care of all legal paper work that gets sent to Births, Deaths and Marriages and apply for your Registered Marriage Certificate for you.  I lodge everything via NSW BDM’s online system so it is fast and efficient.

For more info about the processes involved and the services I provide, please take a look at the ‘SERVICES’ tab.
